India: Convergys Corporation unveiled a new
school building that its employees helped make ready for use as part of its ongoing Corporate
Social Responsibility CSR program in
Hyderabad.In
association with the NGO
Project 511, employees from Convergys'
Information Management facility based in Hi-
tech City,
Hyderabad,
support the educational needs of over 400
students of the Central Upper Primary
School, located in nearby Lingampally. Started in 2004, this
community program is guided by Convergys' commitment to improving the quality of life in
communities where it has facilities around the globe.Corporate citizenship is a core value that's proudly championed by Convergys employees, who
support programs that focus on
education,
social, and
human services around the globe. As is the case with Convergys, CSR programs worldwide, employee volunteers from the
Hyderabad center are also closely involved in the many
activities Convergys undertakes to
support the
school, such as donating
money to install
electrical outlets and
water tanks. In the future, Convergys volunteers also plan to build eco-sanitation facilities on
school premises. The opening of the new building is a milestone for the hundreds of
government school children in Lingampally. Previously, their physical
learning space was quite limited to the school's courtyard.A group of dedicated Convergys volunteers, with the
help of their peers, initiated efforts that made this basic comfort for
children possible by donating the funds needed to
paint learning materials on the
school walls, purchase
school supplies, and provide the
floor-mats on which
students sit. Once
construction was complete, employees joined to
paint the new building and classrooms, and with the
help of
school authorities set up a
library. The single story building, with the capacity to build additional
floors in the future, can accommodate up to 400
students from the first to the fifth grade. "Our Convergys team is committed to creating meaningful change in the
communities we serve through our philanthropic efforts, volunteerism, and
community development
activities," said Paresh Shah, Vice President and General Manager of
Information Management for Convergys. "We have partnered with
Project 511 since 2004 to contribute time and
financial support to
education programs and energize new resources to combat the problem of illiteracy," Paresh added. "Convergys' contribution
will make a remarkable difference in the lives of hundreds of deserving
children of our
school. I sincerely appreciate the generosity and commitment towards the
school," said Japari Gopal, Central Upper Primary
School Headmaster. "Every time Convergys conducts an
activity at the
school, the
faces of the tiny tots brighten up with joy. The involvement of the Convergys volunteers has raised the interest levels in
children and their parents are overjoyed, too," Gopal added. Convergys'
community initiative team also helped
children create a clean, green
environment around the
school by planting
trees on the premises.While the
children get free mid-day meals and textbooks from the
government, their
families must meet the expenses towards stationary,
school bags, and other necessities. To ensure that this gap is met and that the
children are well prepared for the new academic year, Convergys volunteers organized a
School Supplies Donation Drive. In addition to offering monetary
support to the
school, Convergys employees play an active role in contributing to the overall success of the
Project 511 campaign. Each
activity at the
school is planned and executed with the
personal involvement of Convergys volunteers. The
school routinely observes occasions such as Children's Day,
Teachers Day, and Independence Day, and volunteers join in the celebrations. Convergys volunteers also spearhead
activities such as
medical camps,
clothing donation drives, and teaching the
children."Convergys has been one of our best donors in terms of involvement of the volunteers in every
activity and plan for the
school adopted by them," said Smita Naik,
Project 511. "Volunteers from Convergys have always shared a
personal bond with the
children and staff of the
school. Their involvement has inspired these
children to dream for a better future through
education," added Smita. ANI
